Job Description

Our Fairfield client is seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper with multi-state payroll experience, who is excited about the opportunity to make a difference as the company evolves. As such, this position is ideal for an individual who is both technically savvy and customer oriented. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping
  • Maintain detailed and organized payroll records regarding employee salary and pay (tracking hourly rates, wages, compensation changes, employment changes, insurance coverage, incentive compensation structure, employee relocations, new hire information, etc.)
  • Prepare payroll payments and ensure payroll funding is in place
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Address payroll-related issues and questions from employees
  • Ensure all benefits and insurance premiums are properly deducted from paychecks
  • Work closely with Accounting to manage and audit bills for health insurance, other insurance, and 401k to ensure insurance premiums/deductions align with employee enrollment
  • Manage and track employee PTO balances
  • Prepare reports for management, accounting/finance department, etc.
  • Completes day-to-day payroll operations and collaborates with third-party vendors to ensure superior payroll execution, while adhering to all applicable policies and laws
  • Analyze time reports and variances, identifies system inefficiencies, and implements system/process enhancements
  • Assist/process tax calculations and filing activities as per IRS regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Role Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor s degree in business, accounting, or relevant field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of multi-state payroll processing experience required
  • American Contractor or SAGE software knowledge preferred
  • Ability to work with little supervision
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of company benefits such as 401(k), insurance, paid leave, and other voluntary deductions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and in writing
  • Strong problem solving and time management and priority setting skills
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence others while working in a cross functional environment
  • Detail orientation with ability to analyze, problem solve, organize and manage multiple priorities and excellent follow up skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to break down complex concepts and clearly explain them to people at all levels
  • Professional, articulate and able to use good independent judgment and discretion
  • Technically proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
